The wood is Hard Maple, Bubinga and Walnut. Colors are of the wood; it is not painted or stained. The stars have been hand carved out of the walnut, filled with a wood filler and sealed with a polyurethane varnish. The holes are 3/16 in diameter which makes pegging easy on the eyes. The base opens on hinges which are of solid brass and stores your pegs and cards with space to spare. The board measures roughly 13 1/2 X 7 X 3. This board would be the talk at your next cribbage match. It's simply beautiful.
